Plano Arts & Events Interview: Local Artist Spotlight: Nancy Murphy, Yellow Dot Artist

The following article is an interview I did for Plano Arts & Events. “I can’t tell you how many people get teary eyed when they buy a piece of art,” says Murphy. “They clutch the art and share stories of what the painting reminds them of. It’s very moving.”

Murphy is an acrylic painter living in Dallas, Texas. She attributes her discovery of painting to the Corona Virus. Prior to that, she says she didn't know she was artistic. “Painting is not a choice; I can’t NOT do it. I’m driven by something inside me that I can’t explain. It gives me purpose and is the most incredible way of giving to others.

“I’m inspired by endless things. It might be a shape that catches my interest. Sometimes it’s the color. Other times it’s the feeling. My inspiration changes daily. When I’m not feeling inspired, I know it’s time to get out of my routine. It works every time.”

A desire to try something new prompted Murphy to sign up for a two-hour Facebook painting class. A passion was ignited when she discovered a hidden talent she didn't know existed. It's been non-stop since. What started as a time filler turned into a blessing. To date, she has sold over 200 original paintings.

She started using a yellow dot in her signature to signify her painting was finished, like a period at the end of a sentence.
